Retire in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Placitis, New Mexico!
You won’t believe what we found near Albuquerque!   Placitas is 24 miles north of the city with just 5,000 people.  The whole area is high desert foothills.  The mean age is 56 and more than 50% have a college degree or an advanced degree.  We found apartments and condo rentals for $800 per month.    Placitas is ranked 3rd safest city in New Mexico.  If you want to retire in Albuquerque, New Mexico, consider the suburb of Placitis!

The closest hospital is in Albuquerque as is the major airport.    Many of the residents work in the high tech industry in the city or teach at the University.   This tiny community has primary medical care, a library, a Chamber of Commerce and a really nice bistro as well as a market.  The Anasazi Winery is at the western end of the old village of Placitas.  The orchards surrounding the winery are watered by a spring-fed irrigation system that dates back over a thousand years to the time when the Anasazi people farmed the region.  The wine labels feature reproductions of petroglyphs from that time.

Placitas is best known for its spectacular views.   The sweeping vistas of the mountains and landscapes are just amazing.   Placitas has several artists in residence who show their work on-line and in galleries.   Placitas is a quiet, peaceful, safe and beautiful place to live.   Close enough to a big city for all it has to offer – yet far enough away to be in a world in itself.
